Read this if you want an overview of how to get BlueWhaleMail up and running on a Nokia E50 (or similar) phone.
Summary
Many of today's mobile phones are small computers that can connect to the Internet. You can install software like BlueWhaleMail onto them to get your email.
To use BlueWhaleMail on your phone we will help you with five steps:
- Download and install the BlueWhaleMail software
- Start BlueWhaleMail
- Let BlueWhaleMail check that your phone is configured correctly to connect to the Internet
- If needed, configure your phone's settings to be able to connect to the Internet
- Configure BlueWhaleMail to use your email account
Note: Most of the annoying part (especially steps 3 & 4) is in making sure your phone can connect to the internet. It doesn't really have much to do with BlueWhaleMail itself, but we've tried to provide detailed steps for you.
Your network operator will charge you for connecting and transferring data -- it makes sense to see if there are deals you can get ('data tariffs') to make this cheaper.
1. Download and install the BlueWhaleMail software
2. Start BlueWhaleMail
Once the BlueWhaleMail software is installed, your phone will ask you to run the BlueWhaleMail software.
If you want to start the BlueWhaleMail software later, you can do that from the folder you downloaded it to. The default folder is:
Menu -> Installations -> BlueWhaleMail.

3. Let BlueWhaleMail check that your phone is configured correctly to connect to the Internet
4. If needed, configure your phone's settings to connect to the Internet
If BlueWhaleMail reports problems connecting to the Internet in the previous step, there are a couple of extra settings you might need to change on your phone.
These are settings that allow software on your phone like BlueWhaleMail to connect to the Internet and are usually called APN settings (for Access Point Name).
If BlueWhaleMail reports a connection problem, we have provided some help in the link below. Once you have followed the instructions, try going back to step 2 and running BlueWhaleMail again.

5. Configure BlueWhaleMail to use your email account
BlueWhaleMail needs to know where to get your email from. It can usually figure out this information based on your email address (e.g. for bob.smith@gmail.com we know to try to get it from Google's Gmail site).
BlueWhaleMail will ask you for your email address and password. This is your usual password used to access your email -- you are not creating a new password. We will not save your password anywhere but on your phone.
Once BlueWhaleMail has figured out the right information it will make a suggestion. If BlueWhaleMail cannot make a good suggestion based on your email address (e.g. if you have an unusual one like tom.smith@yourownsmallbusiness.com) it will ask you to enter settings for other email accounts manually. If you do not know what settings to enter, you can check What settings should I use for my email account? forum.
Once you accept BlueWhaleMail's suggestion or manually enter your own information, BlueWhaleMail will automatically start receiving email. It might take few seconds once it first starts the download.
