Read this if you try to use BlueWhaleMail software on the T-Mobile UK network and it reports that there was a problem making a connection to the internet or asks you to check your APN.
Normally these days, when you get a phone from your network operator, you should not have to worry about the following as it should already be configured automatically for you. We provide the following information in case there is a problem.
Your network operator (e.g. T-Mobile) has a mobile network which not only allows old-fashioned voice calls, but also has some newer technologies (sometimes known as "GPRS", "EDGE", or "3G") which allow mobile phones to connect to the Internet. BlueWhaleMail uses this data network to send and receive email on your mobile phone.
In order for your mobile to be able to use this data network to connect to the Internet, your phone must have some information needed by your network operator. Usually this information is in the form of "APN settings" (APN stands for "Access Point Name").
Different mobile operators have different APN settings. Sometimes the settings are the same for all customers, and at times contract and pay-as-you-go customers have different APN configurations.
T-Mobile APN Configuration
For both contract and pay-as-you-go T-Mobile customers in UK the following APN settings are used:
Name: TMobile GPRS
GPRS APN address: general.t-mobile.uk
Username : user
Password: wap
- other settings can be left blank.
Different phones have different ways that this information must be entered. For guidelines on how to configure your phone's APN, please visit the following forums:
