Read this if you are trying to configure BlueWhaleMail software to use your email account.

If you don't already have BlueWhaleMail software running, start BlueWhale software from the folder where the application was downloaded. If you do not know where to find it, please see I installed the BlueWhaleMail software, but I do not know where it is! post.

If this is the first time you are running the BlueWhaleMail software, you will be asked to run the connection check. This check makes sure that your phone is configured to allow BlueWhaleMail software to connect to the Internet. For help with running the check, please follow the instructions Starting BlueWhaleMail and running the connection check post. After you pass the connection check, you can return here and read about configuring your BlueWhaleMail to receive your email.

Configuring BlueWhaleMail to get your email

  • On the setting form enter your usual email address and password. Note that your password will not be uploaded or stored on BlueWhaleMail server. Press Continue.
  • BlueWhaleMail software will try to look up the settings for your mail account.
  • If you mail server is recognized (gmail, yahoo, etc) the settings will be already set up for you. Double check these settings and once you are happy with the settings, press Continue.
  • If no suggestions are available, you will be asked to verify that you entered your email address correctly. If you made a mistake, you can correct it now. If you are sure you entered it correctly, press Continue
  • If your email server is unknown, for example because it is the email server for your small business, you will need to enter the email server information manually in the Advanced Settings form of BlueWhaleMail.

For help on what values you should provide please see What settings should I use for my email account? forum.
  • You will need to supply information such as your:

  • inbound username (e.g. "bob.smith")
  • inbound password (e.g. "mypassword")
  • inbound server type (either IMAP or POP3)
  • inbound server address (e.g. "mail.mysmallbusiness.com")
  • inbound server port (e.g. try "993" or "143").
  • outbound server address (e.g. "mail.mysmallbusiness.com")
  • outbound server port( e.g. try "465" or "25").

Outbound username and password are often the same as the inbound. If this is the case for your mail server, select "Same as inbound" option. If the settings are different, you can specify them manually on the form.
  • If your want to add a signature (a piece of text that is displayed at the bottom of each email you send using BlueWhaleMail software) to your emails, you can add such text at the bottom of the advanced settings form.
  • You will see an empty message list. Wait a few seconds while BlueWhaleMail software tries to connect to your mail server and retrieve your mail.
  • If your there is a problem logging into your email account, you will be taken back to the setting form and the problem will be shown at the top of the form. A problem can occur for example because you mistyped your password or entered incorrect server settings when you were entering them manually. Try to correct the problem and retry connecting.

  • If your email settings are correct and you have email in your inbox, you will see email messages displayed in the message list.

To open an email press Open softkey. On your phone you might have other quick ways of openning an email message such as a clicking a middle button.
  • An email message you selected will be open. It will look something similar to this.
  • To go back to the message list, click the soft key for the Menu and select Back. (shortcut: use left arrow)
  • To compose a new message press Menu -> Compose
  • A compose screen would look something similar to this.
  • To send an email, press select Send.
  • Once the message is sent successfully, a green check mark will appear next to the message in the message list.

    Hi,
I have a problem configuring my email account. I use a Java touchscreen phone and after I write the email account I can’t see “Next” but only “Edit” and “Clear”. I tap in different places but useless.
Can you help me with that?
