Read this if you try to use BlueWhaleMail software on Sony Ericsson W880i (or similar) phone and it reports that there was a problem with your Access Point or a problem making a connection to the Internet.
In order to be able to use the BlueWhaleMail software, you need to check that the Internet settings on your phone are set correctly. To do this you need:
The correct Access Point (APN) set up for your Mobile Network Operator Provider.
To point BlueWhaleMail software to use the right APN (from #1 above).
Adding APN settings
From the main menu go to Settings
Open the last tab on the right called Connectivity
Select Data Communications
Select Data Accounts
On this screen you have a list of all data account settings on your phone. Look for your mobile network operator provider. The name usually will consist of your provider name + GPRS and/or INTERNET (i.e. "T-Mobile Internet" "Orange GPRS Internet", "O2 PAYG GPRS Internet".)
If you have found the right entry, you can skip down to the next section called "Configuring BlueWhaleMail software to use correct APN settings" below and try using this entry when configuring the software.
If you do not have the right entry, then you can create one by selecting New Account at the top of the list.
Select PS Data
Enter the name of your mobile provider and press Continue
On the next screen, enter the data settings. If you don't know what information you should enter, please see: What settings do I need for my network operator? forum. When you are done press Save
You will see a confirmation dialog that the entry has been created.
You will see the newly added entry in the list of Data Accounts.
Now that you have added the correct APN for your mobile network operator, you need to configure the BlueWhaleMail software to use that APN.
Configuring BlueWhaleMail software to use correct APN settings
Go back to the main menu and from the main menu go to Settings
Open the last tab on the right called Connectivity and Select Internet Settings
Select Settings for Java
Select New Profile at the top of the list.
Enter a name that would be easy for you to identify as the correct APN settings for your mobile operator
Select Connect Using and press Select.
Select the desired data account. This would be the data account you added in the section above.
Select Save.
You will see New Profile Created message on your phone.
Select the profile you just created.
You are now should be configured and able to use the BlueWhaleMail software. You can now go back to the SonyEricsson Quick Start Guide W880i and continue with the next step of checking that your phone is configured correctly to allow BlueWhaleMail software connect to the Internet.
