Sorry but the Sagem Bleu my700x is not supported, and we're unlikely to have the time to address this device.
Hi KamikazeKitty,

Thanks for your kind words about BlueWhaleMail. The application is "smart" and will try and use any Access Point that it can, with a preference for that last one that it used (or better yet, WLAN if available). So to force it to use a particular Access Point requires a little work. (Disclaimer: please only try this if you're happy with editing Access Points!)

1. Stop the BlueWhaleMail application.
2. Disable all your other Access Points - my favoured approach is to add an "x" character to the end of all the access point names that you wish to disable (and WLAN network names if you have WLAN Access Points set up).
3. Start the BlueWhaleMail application, ensure you are sending and receiving email and/or Facebook items successfully.
4. Enable all your other Access Points again by undoing the change applied in step 2.

Hope this helps, let me know how you get on.

Kind regards,
Richard
Hi,

Sorry you had a problem. We've checked certificates and all seems in order. We've also tried to recreate this problem, but can't.

All I can suggest is:
1. Remove the application.
2. Confirm that your phone's date is correct (especially that the year is correct).
3. Download and install the application again.

All the best,
Richard
Hi,

In late March 2010 we'll release an update that allows the app to use the phone's built-in character sets. So if your phone supports Thai characters, then BlueWhaleMail will too.

Hope that helps,
Richard
Hi mario_mail,

Sorry you've had a problem. We've done some work on APNs, and clearly have a bit more to do yet. May I ask some questions to help me understand and fix the problem? Please feel free to Private Message me the answers.

1. How did you download the application onto your phone? By clicking on a link in an SMS or by transferring the file via your PC/Apple? (If you clicked on the link in the SMS then we know there is a working APN on your phone.)

2. To understand what APN should be configured on your phone, could you tell me which country you are in, who your operator is, and whether you are a contract or pay-as-you-go/prepay user.

3. Finally, if you have the time to tell me which APNs (if any) are configured on your phone that would be helpful, but I appreciate it may take a bit of time, so you may not want to do this.

Many thanks for your help,
Richard
Hi WiRA,

Sorry you've been having problems.

We've been busy and have recently released a new version of the software. To download this, from the message list, select "Options", "8. Help", "Options", "2. Update software".

Please let me know whether this fixes your problem. If it doesn't. then please Private Message me with you phone make & model, and also the version of BlueWhaleMail that you're using. (You can see the version at the top of the Help screen - from the message list, select "Options", "8. Help".)

All the best,
Richard
Hi there,

No. We've made a design decision to ensure that BlueWhaleMail doesn't need a permanent connection to the server. This has a number of benefits but at it's most general it means you can continue to read messages that have already been downloaded and submit replies where there is no connection available (e.g. the London Underground). Clearly you have to be back in network coverage for the replies to be sent...

Hope this helps,
Richard
Hi,

We don't yet support opening attachments but we're working on it!

Thanks,
Richard
Hi,

We don't yet support multiple email accounts but we're looking to implement this soon. Please check back in.

Kind regards,
Richard
Hi Neil,

Thanks for taking the time to post these suggestions. Whilst we'll consider all of them, I thought you should know that HTML email support is something we're already looking at.

Thanks again,
Richard

Hi Carl,

Thanks for posting. Alert tones are something we're looking at for a later release. Regarding the LED we were hoping that the way the application foregrounded itself with new email would serve as a useful notfication - is that helping you at all?

Cheers,
Richard
Hi Fiona,

I've provided some more information on your K800i/ dial-up connection problem in a response to your post. That information should also apply to the LG.

Can I ask what problem was reported when you tried to download and install the software from the phone?

Let me know how you get on with a different SIM card and GPRS access - let me know if we can help.

Many thanks,
Richard
Hi Heather,

Can I ask you to tell us which network operator you're with, whether you're contract or pre-pay, and finally, what APN (Access Point Name) you are using to browse the Internet? This last piece of information can be found in two stages:
1. First, find the name of the data account used by your browser. You can navigate to this information from the standby screen by selecting:
"Menu", "Web", "Settings", "Configuration settings", and you can see the data account name listed under "Account".
2. Then find the APN name used by that account. You can navigate to this information from the standby screen by selecting:
"Menu", "Settings", "Connectivity", "Packet data", "Packet data settings", "Edit active access point" and you can see the APN name listed under "Packet data access point".

I think it may be that your phone is using a WAP APN rather than an Internet APN, but clearly need to check this, hence asking you for the information. (Our information on APN settings is held here: What settings do I need for my network operator?)

If wish to let me have this information by Private Message that's fine too.

Thanks for your question,
Richard
Hi Fiona,

I've just had to fix this on a K800i form someone on an O2 contract so I think we now understand the problem. I've updated the instructions above to give better guidance, but here's a outline of the situation and the fix. Sorry for the long answer, but I wanted to try and give you (and other readers) as much useful information as possible.

Step 1 - check the profile use for Internet browsing To first understand what settings your phone uses when it successfully connects to the Internet, go to "Menu", "Settings", "Connectivity" tab, "Internet settings", "Internet profiles". There you will see a list of the "Internet profiles" available on your phone. Importantly, you will see that one of these profiles is marked as selected with a little dot to its left. This is the profile used when you you are browsing the Internet from your phone. This may be called something like "dial-up connection" from what you describe, but sometimes settings on phones aren't that clear. Make a note of which profile is selected, as we'll use that in the next step.

Step 2 - ensure that BlueWhaleMail uses the profile used for Internet browsing The next step is to try using that profile for the BlueWhaleMail application. If you're still in the "Inetrnet profiles" menu on your phone, use the 'Back' button to return to the "Inetrnet settings" menu and select "Settings for Java". (Otherwise, from the phone's standby screen, go to "Menu", "Settings", "Connectivity" tab, "Internet settings", "Settings for Java". Here again you will see a list of Internet profiles. If the profile you noted in step 1 is not selected, then use the phone's thumbstick to scroll to that profile and press "Select". You should then try the BlueWhaleMail application again. If the profile you noted in step 1 is already selected, or you've retried the BlueWhaleMail application but it still doesn't work, then it indicates a problem with the APN used by the profile - see step 3 below.

Step 3 - WAP and Internet APNs When it comes to Internet browsing there seem to be two types of APN that can work. The problem is that only one of these two APNs seems to work for applications that aren't Internet browsers. WAP APNs allow your phone to reach the Internet but have constraints on them. Internet APNs also allow your phone to reach the Internet but without the additional constraints. If you've carried out step 2 but BlueWhaleMail still doesn't work it probably means that the Internet profile you selected in "Settings for Java" uses a WAP APN. So, I'd suggest checking you have an Internet APN, then create a profile that uses the new Internet APN, and finally select that as the profile in "Settings for Java" - the easiest way to do this probably to follow the updated instructions above. They include a link to find eth APNs settinsg for your operator.

Again, sorry it's such a long answer, but hopefully gives you the detail you need. Please let me know how you get on.

Best wishes,
Richard

Read this if you want to learn about security implications of using BlueWhaleMail software.

Safety and security are important issues for anything to do with your email or your mobile phone. We respect that and want to give you as much information as we can to help you make an informed decision. If there's an issue we haven't addressed, please post a reply to this forum topic.

  1. Personal information like your phone number and email address.
You may tell us your mobile phone number (so we can send you a download link via Text Message) and you will need to tell us your email address. We want you to know that we won't use these to spam you, and we won't sell them to others. For more detail, please take the time to read our Privacy Policy - we've done our best to make it clear and free of legal jargon.

  2. Will it break my phone, or stop it from working?
We have done our best to test against many of the most popular handsets. We can't test against every possible phone out there, but we are certain that BlueWhaleMail is no more dangerous to your phone than any of the other Java MIDlet games and other applications you can download to your phone.

  3. Will it expose my phone to viruses?
BlueWhaleMail doesn't try to start or run any of the content inside the emails it downloads. In that respect it should be much safer than reading your email on a desktop PC.
